Located in Ori, Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan, Daeryong Village is a peaceful rural community where nature, tradition, and art come together in harmony. Its name, “Daeryong” (meaning “great dragon”), comes from a local legend about a giant dragon that once lived in a pond near the village entrance. Quiet and cozy, this rural village offers a tranquil escape just beyond the bustle of central Busan. In 2007, as part of the “Better Living Environment” project, artists began moving into the village—marking the beginning of its transformation. Empty lots and old houses were gradually turned into studios and exhibition spaces, and over time, the entire village naturally evolved into what is now known as an “art village.” Even today, the village feels more like an open-air gallery than a quiet countryside town. Murals on building walls, sculptures tucked into alleyways, and various artworks you encounter along the way all come together to create a uniquely artistic atmosphere that stirs the senses. One of the village’s most beloved spots was the self-service café Art in Ori, known for its charming interior, handwritten notes left by visitors, and the many artworks that filled the space. Together, they created a warm, sentimental atmosphere that made it a must-visit destination in Daeryong Village. Although the café is no longer in operation, the village still continues to attract visitors with experiences like wood-fired pizza-making, occasional flea markets, and cultural events. Daeryong Village continues to offer visitors a unique experience—encountering art in the heart of nature.
