The largest port in Yangyang area is also one of the Eight Sights of Yangyang, and along with Simgokhang Port of Gangneung and Chogokhang Port of Samcheok, said to be the three most beautiful ports in Gangwon-do. Indeed, its reputation can be seen in the picturesque view of the white and red lighthouse, breakwater, and the fishing boats docked at the port. Another point of interest at Namaehang Port is the Namaehang Skywalk Observatory. Located at the entrance to the breakwater, this observation point offers a breathtaking view of the Namaehang Port area and the East Sea. The island, where the skywalk is located, was called Yangyado Island during the Joseon period, and the site of this observation point used to have a beacon during the Joseon period. Namae Fishing Village Experience, a village that is fed by the Namaehang Port, offers fishing boat trips for visitors, along with hand fishing, rock crab catching, and stuffed squid making. Some of Namaehang Port’s major catches include squid, plaice, and flatfish. A line of restaurants specializing in raw fish slices allows visitors to enjoy the fresh catch right away.

Namchanggol Valley, located at the foot of Ibamsan Mountain with a x_height of about 654 meters, belongs to the southern part of Naejangsan National Park (Namchang District). It consists of six valleys, including Sanseong, Eunseon-dong, and Banseok-dong (Saejaegyegok Valley). Nearby there is the Chonnam National University training center and beautiful surrounding scenery. Despite being well-known, visitors can enjoy their time without being crowded making it a very good summer resort. Hermitages such as the famous Baegyangsa Temple, Yaksaam Rock, and Yeongcheongul Cave, Jangseongho Lake and Bija grove are nearby as well. In particular, Ibamsanseong Fortress located in the upper reaches of the valley is Pogoksiksanseong Fortress built during the Samhan Period and designated as National Historic Site No. 384. The Namchang Valley Nature Observation Trail, which is about 730 meters long, is equipped with various information boards and experience facilities related to nature learning, making it a good place for ecological learning. The nature observation path has themes to provide visitors with a variety of attractions, and the long stretch of cedar forest is also a must-see. In autumn, the maple leaves from the maple trees fall into the valley water creating a stunning scenery.

Namcheongyegok Valley is located on the northern side of Sobaeksan National Park. The forest is preserved quite well because the valley is located deep within the mountain. Follow the small trails to find the Namcheon Campground, where one can enjoy camping deep in the forest.

Namgyeseowon Confucian Academy was established in 1552 as the second Confucian academy in Korea after the Sosuseowon Confucian Academy located in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Seowon refers to a private educational institution of the Joseon period founded to perform Confucian rituals and nurture talent. &ldquo;Namgye&rdquo; is named after the Namgyecheon Stream flowing in its front. It was destroyed by in 1597 during the Imjin War (1592-1598) and rebuilt in 1612. Located on a low hill, it provides an open view of Gaepyeong Hanok Village beyond the field and the stream.

Boriam Hermitage sits atop Geumsan Mountain (alt. 704 m). The mountain was once called Bogwangsan Mountain as it was home to Bogwangsa Temple, founded by Monk Wonhyo. The name Geumsan was bestowed upon the mountain by King Taejo after he founded the Joseon dynasty. Along with Bomunsa Temple in Ganghwado Island and Hongnyeonam Hermitage in Naksansa Temple, Boriam Hermitage is known as one of the most prestigious prayer spots in Korea.

Namhansanseong was a fortress that protected the southern approaches to the capital during the Baekje kingdom (18 B.C. &ndash; 660 A.D.) and the Joseon dynasty (1392-1897). During the Qing invasion of Joseon in 1636, King Injo of Joseon (reigned 1623-1649) sought refuge here and constructed Haenggung, a temporary palace. Subsequently, it became the administrative center of the Gwangju region, and today, it is a site where many cultural properties are preserved.
