Siheung Gaetgol Festival (시흥갯골축제)

Ssokssokdeul-i Festival (국립극장 쏙쏙들이페스티벌)

Ssokssokdeul-i Festival is a program organized by the National Theater of Korea’s Stage Arts Support Center, designed to make performing arts more accessible in everyday life. Held regularly throughout the year, it offers a variety of performances free of charge, creating greater opportunities for the public to engage with the arts in a relaxed and approachable setting. The festival takes place at the “Ssok” Experience Theater within the Stage Arts Support Center and features dynamic stages that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Tickets for the performances are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the on-site information desk starting at 12:00 on the day of the performance. These tickets may close early depending on the number of seats available. With artists presenting distinctive styles across a range of popular genres, it creates a vibrant cultural space where different generations can come together and share the experience.

Sunchang Jangryu Festival (순창장류축제)

This festival takes place in Sunchang, the renowned home of gochujang. Visitors can try spicy and savory dishes made with Sunchang gochujang, partake in programs such as making red chili paste, and check out the festival’s performances, exhibitions, and shops. The biggest attraction is the “Sunchang gochujang offering procession to the King.” It is an reenactment based on the records of King Taejo's (born Yi Seong-gye), founder of the Joseon dynasty, love for the taste of Sunchang gochujang. During the event, a music procession and porters with a wagon loaded with crocks of chili paste perform a march around the village. Visitors can also check out the new Fermentation Theme Park, where they can learn the scientific principles of food through microbial experiments.◎ TipTteokbokki is a must-eat Korean street food. Don’t miss the “Sunchang Tteokbokki Town,” where you can try a variety of tteokbokki dishes made using Sunchang’s fermented sauces.
