Seomi Garden (섬이정원)

The Seomi Garden is a formal, natural European garden decorated with old stone walls and ponds of a terraced paddy field, overlooking the beautiful waters of Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park in the South Sea also known as the treasure islands, as well as various herbs and silver grasses growing on the hedges. Just as the walls and gates of a royal palace are both independent and connected at the same time to create spaces, nine small gardens are divided by the concept of rooms by using the x_height differences of the terraced paddy field, and each room has a unique appearance while, sometimes, they all mingle with one another to show different scenery.

The Seomjingang River, one of the four major rivers in Korea, starts from Imsil and Sunchang. It merges with several bodies of water in Gokseong, Gurye and Hadong before flowing into the South Sea. In Gokseong, the Seomjingang River is also known as the Sunjagang River. It flows about 36 kilometers through the region. A number of big and small valleys throughout the length of the river provide fantastic views and relaxation spots all year round. Also, Riverside Festival and Seomjingang Literature Forum are held every summer to offer fun summer activities along the river.

Since its development in April 1999 as a part of government efforts to boost regional tourism, Seomjingang Train Village has established itself as a popular attraction in Gokseong. A replica of the region's old steam engine train runs 10 kilometers between the old Gokseong Station in Seomjingang Train Village and Gajeong Station. The train runs along the old tracks at a moderate speed, allowing passengers to enjoy the scenic view along the tracks.

Seonam Lake Park was originally developed to provide industrial water, and was closed off to the public with high barbed wire fences for over four decades. However, after the area was no longer used for industrial reasons, the fences were removed and the 1.2 ㎢ lake area was converted into a park. Seonamsa is a beautiful temple located at the east end of Jogyesan Mountain. The distance between the entrance and the temple site is approximately one kilometer. The temple site is nestled within a lush forest of diverse trees that are hundreds of years old. In front of the temple is an arched stone bridge named Seungseongyo Bridge, which is supported by natural bedrocks. In front of the main hall, Daeungjeon Hall, are two three-story stone pagodas that grab visitors' attention. Not only is Seonamsa Temple home to many of the country's pristine treasures and artifacts, it is also one of the few temples that preserve the traditional temple culture even as of today. Seonamsa Temple is beautiful throughout the year, but it is especially inviting in spring and fall when the flowers start to bloom and tree leaves change in color.

Seonbichon Village in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the cradle of Korean Confucianism, is where the spirit and cultural heritage of Korea’s classical scholars are preserved. The village is the perfect place to learn about traditional Korea, and is famous for its classical scholars’ loyalty and filial piety. Seonbichon village offers a variety of traditional activities for visitors, from pounding rice cake to hanging wish lanterns to attending a traditional wedding ceremony or playing folk games such as yutnori or jegichagi. Visitors can also enjoy traditional dining at Jeojatgeori Street and learn about history through the museum. Guests can also enjoy the unique experience of staying in a hanok house through the overnight program and participate in scholar programs.
