Gangbuk Baengmaek Festival (강북 백맥축제)

The Baengmaek Festival, which has grown into a representative event of Gangbuk-gu since 2023, aims to help transform Uicheon Stream into a permanent night market and a cultural space centered along the stream. In line with Seoul’s efforts to develop attractions nearby the stream, the festival highlights the area’s scenic waterfront as its main venue. Bringing together local businesses and young entrepreneurs, the festival creates a welcoming space for people of all ages. Rather than focusing on big-name performers, it features a variety of busking acts and performances by local artists, encouraging community participation. It also expands opportunities for small businesses by offering spaces for traditional market foods and craft beer, helping vendors reach new customers.

Ganghwa Yango Ice Fishing Festival (강화 양오 빙어축제)

Strolling along the cafe-lined beaches of Gangneung, visitors can experience a coffee aroma that rivals the sea breeze. Famous coffee manufacturers attend the Gangneung Coffee Festival and hold a tasting event. At the opening ceremony, 100 baristas hold a “100 People 100 Tastes” performance where they simultaneously brew hand-drip coffee. Visitors are welcome to taste 100 kinds of coffee at this special event. During the festival, competitions are held to select the No. 1 barista for each category, including latte art, hand drip, and roasting. Tourists can also visit cafés in Gangneung that are taking part in the festival and receive a stamp to get a prize. Coffee enthusiasts should not miss this opportunity.

Gangneung National Heritage Night (강릉 국가유산 야행)

Geumsan World Insam Festival (금산세계인삼축제)

The Geumsan World K-Insam Festival is a well-being event that promotes the excellence of ginseng, an herb that strengthens the immune system against cancer and other diseases. Visitors can take part in health-related programs, including the red ginseng foot bath, Korean medicine therapy, and traditional massage at the Health Experience Hall. Visitors can also try foods made with ginseng and check out the various shapes that the medicinal plant comes in and its uses, including makgeolli (unrefined rice wine) and fries. There are booths for a wide variety of activities, such as ginseng harvesting and ginseng art, as well as performances that introduce Geumsan’s culture and traditions. Geumsan ginseng can also be purchased at a cheaper price at the festival’s market, and its goods can be received directly from within the county.◎ Geumsan GinsengGeumsan Insam Herbal Medicine Market deals with 80% of Korea’s total ginseng production.

Gijisi Juldarigi Folk Festival (기지시줄다리기 민속축제)

Gimje Horizon Festival (김제지평선축제)

In Korea, finding an unobstructed horizon is a rarity, making Gimje’s expansive horizon a unique and stunning sight. Held in the autumn when the fields are tinged with gold, the Gimje Horizon Festival celebrates this unique landscape. The festival aims to promote Gimje’s famous rice and preserve traditional agricultural culture based on the theme of, “where the land meets the sky.” The torch parade at night is the highlight of the festival. The spectacular performance in front of the huge twin dragon sculptures standing at the center of the Byeokgolje Reservoir (Historic Site No. 111) perfectly captures the festival’s vibrant and passionate atmosphere. Throughout the festival venue, there are farming activities, such as harvesting rice and threshing, as well as rural experiences of the past, such as catching grasshoppers and riding an ox cart. ◎ Byeokgolje Reservoir Built during the Baekje period, the manmade reservoir shows the wisdom of Korea’s ancestors and the old agricultural system. On the embankment more than 3 kilometers long, five floodgates were installed to discharge water into the rice fields.

Gochang Blue Farm Lavender Festival (고창청농원 라벤더 축제)

Gochang Blue Farm, located in Gocheong-gun, is a stay farm featuring seasonal gardens. Lavender and Hydrangeas bloom in spring and summer, while pink muhly grass adorns the farm in October. Spanning over 16,000 square meters, the Lavender Garden offers various photo zones, allowing visitors to capture memorable shots, especially the hanok building with lavender in the background adds an extra touch of charm. Visitors can also enjoy strolling through the bamboo and pine forest behind the lavender garden or relax at the hanok café. The farm is pet-friendly, making it an ideal destination to visit with your pet, family, or a date.

Gochang Blue Farm Pink Muhly Season (고창청농원 핑크뮬리시즌)
