Forest Museum (숲박물관)

Former Gim Yu-jeong Station (김유정역 폐역)

Originally opened as Sinnam Station in 1939, this site was renamed Gim Yu-jeong Station in 2004, marking the first time in Korean history a railway station was named after a person. While the original building closed in 2010 with the opening of the new Gyeongchun Line, it has since been preserved and developed into a popular retro tourist attraction. The new station building features traditional Korean architecture, while the adjacent old station remains frozen in time. The old platform is now a photo zone decorated with playful signs, and the station’s interior retains its original nostalgic atmosphere. Adding to the charm, a retired Mugunghwa train rests on the tracks, repurposed as a cozy book café and a tourist information center. The grounds also feature an outdoor wedding venue that is available for public use free of charge.

Former Gongju-eup Office (옛 공주읍사무소)

The Former Gongju-eup Office, a two-story Western-style red brick building built in 1923, stands as a symbol of Gongju’s modern history. Its interior showcases old photographs of Gongju, antique furniture, and a model of the current city. It also serves as a central venue for the annual Gongju Culture Night, held every fall, featuring performances, hands-on activities, and a flea market.

Former Main Building of the Gunsan Customs (옛 군산세관)

The Former Main Building of the Gunsan Customs was completed before the start of Japanese colonial rule in 1908, making it a modern government building established by Korea. The customs office was responsible for inspecting and taxing goods entering and leaving Gunsan Port. As the port later became a key route for the export of rice and other resources during the colonial period, the site bears witness to that history of exploitation. Designed by an unnamed German architect, the European-style building was constructed with bricks imported from Belgium. It features ornamental roof tiles, three pointed towers, a brick exterior, and a wooden interior. Its architectural style is similar to that of Seoul Station and the Bank of Korea headquarters. Planned in 1906 and completed on June 20, 1908, it served as the main building of Gunsan Customs office for 85 years until 1993, when a new building was constructed after the adjacent watchtower was demolished. Today, it operates as the Honam Customs Museum, showcasing materials related to customs history, including notable records, film appearances, former customs directors, and the 100-year history of Gunsan Customs.

Fossil Dinosaur and Bird Footprints of Goseong (고성 덕명리 공룡과 새발자국 화석 산지)

The ancient fossil site at Deokmyeong-ri, Goseong-gun, is one of the largest Cretaceous dinosaur fossils sites in the world. It is the home of a vast amount of footprints from a variety of ancient species, as well as the largest Mesozoic bird footprint found to date. The formations from many different prehistoric eras make it a precious site for academic research on the life patterns of dinosaurs, the ancient natural environment and formations, the distribution of sea and land, and the evolution of bird species. It is also a great tourist attraction that offers magnificent scenery, including a coastline dotted with beautiful Hallyeosudo islets, unique rock formations and cliffs, and sea caves.
