National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul [MMCA Seoul] (국립현대미술관 서울관)

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (MMCA Seoul) opened in 2013 as a city venue of the MMCA, which opened in 1986 in Gwacheon. The museum site was where many of Korea’s historical and political developments were achieved, both during the Joseon dynasty and after the Korean War. The Seoul venue of MMCA stands out from other museums through its use of Korea’s traditional architectural concept of "madang," a spacious courtyard where people can come and gather to socialize. The exterior of the building stands in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Inside, the museum is equipped with many facilities, including a reference center, project gallery theater, and multipurpose hall. MMCA Seoul strives to accommodate every mode of new artistic endeavor and to communicate with the public.

National Museum of World Writing Systems (국립세계문자박물관)

The National Museum of World Writing Systems is the third museum in the world to specialize in writing systems, following the Champollion Museum in France and the National Museum of Chinese Writing. The museum collects and researches new and important information from the stories contained in scripts, and conducts exhibitions and education based on this. By doing so, it shares the historical value of world scripts and provides content that allows visitors to experience the diversity of culture through scripts. From the first written script of mankind to the "Hangeul," Korean alphabet, it tells the story of the birth, development, and future of the characters that have led the development of human civilization.

National Palace Museum of Korea (국립고궁박물관)

* Special closure on March 21, 2026 The National Palace Museum of Korea displays over 40,000 relics from the Joseon dynasty. With various treasures on exhibit, the museum continues to provide information on the dignity of royal culture and the creativity of royal cultural assets.
National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (국립해양문화재연구소)

The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage is located along Gatbawi Culture Street in Mokpo. Managed by the Cultural Heritage Administration, it is the only marine museum in Korea to display marine cultural relics. Opened in 1994 as the National Maritime Museum, the name was changed in 2009. The two-story institute houses over 2,000 relics excavated from the sea around Korea. There are four main exhibition halls as well as an outdoor exhibition space and one special exhibition hall. Through the exhibits, visitors can see ships from the past as well was learn about the lifestyle and culture of people living in coastal villages.

National Science Museum (국립중앙과학관)

The National Science Museum collects and exhibits various scientific materials. The outdoor exhibition features large models including airplanes, propellers, airboats and more as well as rest areas. The special exhibition hall displays the work of various contest winners as well as rare products. The permanent exhibition hall offers approximately 4,200 works from 322 subjects in four different fields. The observatory hall in a dome-shaped structure has a 70-millimeter-long astro-vision as well as a planetarium. Various programs are offered including HAM radio, education and experience class, model plane class, and computer class, as well as other science education programs and events.

National Theater of Korea (국립극장)

The National Theater of Korea opened in 1950 as the first national theater in Asia. It is the only production theater that takes traditional arts to recreate them as contemporary art. It offers various types of theaters, such as Haeoreum Grand Theater, Daloreum Theater (middle-size), Immersive Studio ByeolByeol (small-size), and Haneul Round Theater with a circular stage structure. In addition, the Museum of Performing Arts, Cultural Plaza, and other convenience stores and coffe shops offer pleasure and relax to its visitors.
National Women's History Exhibition Hall (국립여성사전시관)

The National Women’s History Exhibition Hall opened on December 9, 2002 in Daebang-dong, Seoul, but was moved to its current location in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do on September 1, 2014. The hall uses both traditional display techniques as well as creative media art to showcase the history and culture of women in Korea. The exhibition hall aims to give women their rightful place in Korean history, in addition to enhancing women’s sense of pride and expand gender equality through various activities, including public education programs and special exhibitions.

Natural Dyeing Culture Center (한국천연염색박물관)

The area of Naju has long been at the forefront of the natural dyeing and silk production industry. The natural setting of fresh water from the Yeongsangang River along with the salt water from the sea are perfect for growing the plants necessary for a deep indigo color. As such, it is the only area to be recognized for its natural dyeing (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) by the Cultural Heritage Administration. The best place to experience this local heritage is at the Natural Dyeing Culture Center. The center offers experience programs and educational programs, as well as exhibitions and sales of naturally dyed products.
Natural Habitat of Crinum Lilies on Tokkiseom Island (제주 토끼섬 문주란 자생지)
Mujuran-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
Jeju's Tokkiseom Island (Rabbit Island) is located 50 meters off the coast of Hado-ri, Gujwa-eup in Jeju-si. Crinum lilies grow in an environment where the average temperature is around 15℃ with the lowest temperature no less than -3.5℃. The flower is white and blooms from July to September. They bloom at night and have a strong fragrance.
