Bongsan Cultural Center (봉산문화회관)

Bongsan Cultural Center is a comprehensive culture and arts complex located on Bongsan Culture Street in downtown Daegu. The center serves to provide cultural entertainment to the community as well as contribute to the development of traditional culture and local art. The center also provides opportunities for the public to participate in well-being recreational activities and acquire life-long education related to culture and arts. The center has five modern exhibition halls (Exhibition Hall No. 1-4 and Art Space) and two performance halls (Gaon Hall with 442 seats and Space Raon with 90 seats). As the center is located near Banwoldang Station (Daegu Subway Line 1), it is easily accessible by public transportation.

Bongsan Culture Street (봉산문화거리)

Bongsan Culture Street is a landmark culture & arts place in Daegu. The street, which stretches all the way from Daegu Hakwon to Bongsan Yukgeori (six-way intersection), has over 20 galleries of various sizes. It was 1991 when the small alley with several art galleries started to turn into a breeding ground for culture and the arts. Soon after, the street was officially designated ‘Bongsan Culture Street’ and subsequently, the roads were neatly paved, artistic street lamps were installed, and streetside gardens were created. With the opening of Bongsan Culture Center and Cultural House for Teens, the street became increasingly frequently by citizens, not just professional artists. At Bongsan Culture Street, artwork os on display throughout the year and every October (when the Bongsan Art Festival is held) the whole street is filled with artistic passion.

Bongsan Gejang Baekban Street (봉산게장백반거리)
Bongsan-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do
Yeosu is known as a paradise for food lovers, offering a wide variety of dishes. The representative dish of the Yeosu region, dolgejang baekban (marinated crab set menu), is considered one of the top ten delicacies of Yeosu, along with grilled eel, braised hairtail, and the traditional Yeosu set meal. The main ingredient used in crab marinated in soy sauce is the snow crab and freshwater crab known locally as dolga or banjanggae. Bongsan-dong has many fishing boats arriving directly from the nearby sea, making it a region rich in seafood throughout the year. As more restaurants specializing in marinated crab dish opened, the area became known as Crab Alley. Over time, the street developed into a concentrated dining area dedicated to this dish, attracting tourists eager to taste it. In 2009, it was officially designated as Bongsan Gejang Baekban Street. Noteworthy attractions near the Bongsan-dong Gejang Baekban Street includes a lakeside park located a 4-minute drive away and the Yeosu Specialty Seafood Market, which is about a 7-minute drive away.

Bongsan Jjimgalbi (봉산찜갈비)

Jjimgalbi, steamed beef ribs, is a popular Korean dish. What sets Bongsan Jjimgalbi apart is that the restaurant serves the ribs in nickel-silver bowls that have higher thermal conductivity, which helps to bring out the best flavor and texture in meat. Furthermore, the popularity of Bongsan Jjimgalbi has given rise to other jjimgalbi restaurants on the same street that is now known as Dongin-dong Jjimgalbi Street. Today, jjimgalbi remains a representative local specialty of Daegu, and one of the most popular Korean dishes among international visitors.

Bongsudae Beach (봉수대해변)
Oho-ri, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do
Bongsudae Beach is located 200 meters north of Sampo Beach and the white-sand coastline stretches along the side of National Road No. 7. This beach was opened in 1997, and remains relatively cleaner than other beaches. The beach is used as an auto-camping site in summer. The beach shore is only 800 meters long and 50 meters wide, but boasts clean and fine sand.

Bongwonsa Temple (봉원사)

Located on the outskirts of Ansan Mountain in Bongwon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Bongwonsa Temple, as the center of Korean Buddhism Taego, is a thousand-year-old temple with a long history and tradition. In 889 (3rd year of Shilla Queen Jinseong’s reign), Monk Doseon founded it at the ground of Yeonhui Palace (now Yonsei Univ.) and named it Banyasa temple. It was destroyed during the Imjin War in 1592, and later in 1748 (the 24th year of Joseon King Yeongjo’s reign), it was rebuilt and renamed “Bongwonsa” by two Buddhist monks, Chanjeup and Jeungam. “Yeongsanjae,” one of the Buddhist rituals and also a National Intangible Cultural Property, takes place at Bongwonsa on June 6 every year wishing for world peace and the reunification of North and South Korea. It was designated as one of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. During Yeongsanjae, visitors can enjoy the Buddhist arts such as Beompae (Buddhist temple music for rituals) and dancing. Also, during summertime, Seoul Lotus Flower Culture Festival takes place, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful lotus flowers which are a symbol of Buddhism.
