Namdo Folk Food Exhibition Room & Honam Cultural Material Pavilion (남도향토음식박물관·호남문화자료전시관)

Located in Gwangju, the Namdo Folk Food Exhibition Room was established to preserve and promote the local foods of the Namdo region. The museum has a museum shop, both permanent exhibitions and special planned exhibitions, and a studio where visitors can watch a variety of video content related to the local foods. In the Honam Cultural Material Pavilion, literature, clothing, and artwork from the region are on display. The museum building was designed to resemble both the long, rectangular presses used to make patterned rice cakes and the Ipseokdae Rock of Mudeungsan Mountain, a symbol of Gwangju. Even the colors of the building’s walls hold special significance. The obangsaek (five colors; blue, white, red, black, and yellow) symbolize the cardinal directions, the seasons, the major organs in the body, different tastes, feelings, and philosophy.

Namgyeseowon Confucian Academy [UNESCO World Heritage] (남계서원 [유네스코 세계문화유산])

Namgyeseowon Confucian Academy was established in 1552 as the second Confucian academy in Korea after the Sosuseowon Confucian Academy located in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Seowon refers to a private educational institution of the Joseon period founded to perform Confucian rituals and nurture talent. “Namgye” is named after the Namgyecheon Stream flowing in its front. It was destroyed by in 1597 during the Imjin War (1592-1598) and rebuilt in 1612. Located on a low hill, it provides an open view of Gaepyeong Hanok Village beyond the field and the stream.

Namhae Garlic & Korean Beef Festival (남해 마늘한우축제)

Namhae Garlic & Korean Beef celebrates Namhae’s signature agricultural products: garlic and premium Korean beef. The festival takes place at the Namhae Exile Literature Museum, with five nearby parking areas for easy access. Visitors can browse and purchase a wide range of local specialties in one place, prepared by local farmers and fishermen, and enjoy the event alongside residents. There is a shuttle bus that takes passengers back and forth between the parking lot and the festival venue.

Namhae German Exhibition Hall (남해 파독전시관)

Namhae German Exhibition Hall opened on June 28, 2014 to display the history and artifacts related to Korean miners and nurses who were sent to Germany for work in the 1960s. At the time, Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world, with an unemployment rate of 30%. The exhibition hall shows the sad and lonely reality these workers lived through while working away from their home country in order to send money home to their families.
Namhae Geumsan Boriam Hermitage (금산 보리암(남해))

Boriam Hermitage sits atop Geumsan Mountain (alt. 704 m). The mountain was once called Bogwangsan Mountain as it was home to Bogwangsa Temple, founded by Monk Wonhyo. The name Geumsan was bestowed upon the mountain by King Taejo after he founded the Joseon dynasty. Along with Bomunsa Temple in Ganghwado Island and Hongnyeonam Hermitage in Naksansa Temple, Boriam Hermitage is known as one of the most prestigious prayer spots in Korea.

Namhae Pyeonbaek National Recreational Forest (국립 남해편백자연휴양림)

Namhae Pyeonbaek National Recreational Forest, opened in 1998, is located near the south sea with a forest full of cypress trees. With a total area of 2.27 million square meters, the recreational forest is an ideal place for relaxation with a view. The observatory, approximately one hour walk from the entrance, provides an amazing view of the south sea with various size islands. The recreational forest offers visitors facilities including accommodations, outdoor classroom and more. There are also many historic sites including Chungnyeolsa Temple.
Namhae Treasure Island Observatory (남해보물섬전망대)

Namhae Treasure Island Observatory is a structure that embodies a "lighthouse that beautifully lights up Namhae," the southernmost tip of Korea. The 360° panoramic view from inside the building is equivalent to what can be seen from an ultra-luxury cruise ship and is difficult to find anywhere else in the country. From the Skywalk on the second floor, you can walk over the first glass skywalk built in Korea, get a clear view of gorgeous Namhae over a cliff, and enjoy the beautiful sunrise, sunset and moonrise of the South Sea.

Namhansanseong was a fortress that protected the southern approaches to the capital during the Baekje kingdom (18 B.C. – 660 A.D.) and the Joseon dynasty (1392-1897). During the Qing invasion of Joseon in 1636, King Injo of Joseon (reigned 1623-1649) sought refuge here and constructed Haenggung, a temporary palace. Subsequently, it became the administrative center of the Gwangju region, and today, it is a site where many cultural properties are preserved.
Namhansanseong Trail (남한산성 탐방로)

Namhansanseong Trail is a historical-themed path designed to provide an experiential journey through the Namhansanseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This lengthy elliptical fortress is built on rugged terrain at an elevation of 500 meters, with walls spanning a circumference of 12.4 kilometers. Offering a total of five routes, the trail presents breathtaking scenery and adds charm with pathways that closely follow the fortress walls.

Nami Island Zip Wire is an eco-friendly leisure facility established by Gapyeong County Office in partnership with Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and Nami Island Inc. It is one of the largest zipline facilities in Asia. Riders start from an 80-meter-high tower and zoom down along a wire cable to Jarasum (640 meters) or Nami Island (940 meters).

Namildae Beach (남일대해수욕장)

Located in Sacheon and home to the huge Elephant Rock that resembles an elephant drinking water, Namildae Beach is a popular vacation spot all year round thanks to its clean water and soft sand. The thick surrounding forests and Jinneol Observation Deck, as well as many fishing spots, add to its popularity. During the summer season, there is a singing competition and film festival. Vacationers can also visit Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge, the biggest bridge in Asia, and see Hallyeohaesang National Park on a ferry cruise.

Nammangsan Sculpture Park (남망산 조각공원)
