Cheongnamdae Presidential Villa (청남대)

Cheongnamdae, which means "Cheong Wa Dae in a warm southern land," was once a private villa used by former presidents of Korea. Cheongnamdae became open to the public on April 18, 2003. It is located near Daecheong Dam in Cheongwon-gu, Chungcheongbuk-do and was built in 1983. The total area spans 1,825,000ｍ² and consists of a main building, golf range, heliport, and fishing area. The natural environment surrounding the area has been well preserved, serving as a home to wildlife, including over 143 species of wild flowers and 124 species of trees as well as several endangered species.

Cheongnyangsan Provincial Park (청량산도립공원)

Cheongnyangsan Mountain, with an altitude of 870 meters, is hidden away from civilization. Attractions in the mountain are 12 peaks including Geumtapbong Peak, eight caves, Gwangchangpokpo Falls, and Cheongnyangsa Temple, built by Buddhist monk Wonhyo during King Munmu’s third year of reign during the Silla Period (57 BC - AD 935). Behind the Cheongnyangsan Provincial Park’s entrance boulder is a monument with a poem inscribed on it by the famous scholar Toegye Yi Hwang of the Joseon period called Cheongnyangsanga. Aside from Toegye Yi Hwang, Wonhyo and Uisang, caligraphy master Gimsaeng, scholar Choi Chi-won, and many others came to this mountain to cultivate their arts. Their presence still lingers in legends, being retold to this day.
Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream (영월 청령포)

Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream, located in the upper reaches of the Namhangang River in Gwangcheon-ri, Nam-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, is the place where King Danjong stayed after being dethroned and exiled to Yeongwol. Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon dynasty, abdicated the throne to his uncle, who became King Sejo. However, in 1456, the following year, there was a movement by six court officials to restore King Danjong to the throne, resulting in his demotion and exile to Cheongnyeongpo area. Cheongnyeongpo was surrounded by water on three sides—east, south, and north—and a rugged cliff known as Yukyukbong Peak rose to the west, making it impossible to enter or leave without using a boat. King Danjong lived a life of exile cut off from the outside world in this secluded place; it is said that at the time, there was a house available for him to stay in, and the local official, Eom Heung-do, would secretly visit at night to pay his respects. Cheongnyongsa Temple Site (청룡사지)

In the late Goryeo era, King Taejo ordered to build a large temple at the foot of Cheonggyesan Mountain for Preceptor Bogak to retire to hermitage. Now, the temple site has become a ruin, with only the Stupa of State Preceptor Bogak, called Jeonghyewonyung, lion stone lantern, and stele for Jeonghyewonyung at the site. Cheongnyongsa Temple, recently built, is also situated in the vicinity of the area along with other Buddhist cultural assets.
Cheongok Golden Bat Cave (천곡황금박쥐동굴)
50 Donggul-ro, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do
Cheongok Golden Bat Cave in Donghae is the only natural cave in Korea located in a downtown area. Estimated to have been created 400 to 500 million years ago, the cave is known to serve as a habitat for the endangered golden bats. The cave's total length stretches for 1,510 meters, with only 810 meters of the cave open to the public while the rest of cave remains protected for preservation purposes. The cave features ceiling craters, one of which is the longest in Korea, along with stalactite curtains, travertine terraces, stalactite cascades, and many other fantastic rock formations. The cave's unique features provide a grand spectacle for tourists and great speleological samples for researchers. A 785-meter walkway was made using the sinkhole created by dissolved limestone to help visitors get a better understanding of cave formations.
