Mungyeong Yakdol Hanu Town is a meat processing facility and restaurant built by Mungyeong City to promote the excellence of Mungyeong Yakdol Hanu, a local specialty, throughout the country. The restaurant is highly recommended as a must-visit place for sightseeing in Mungyeong because of its large space (1 underground floor, 2 above-ground floors) and high-quality Korean beef. The Korean beef raised on pegmatite (a rock that contains beneficial minerals to the human body), also known as "medicine stone" or yakdol in Korea, is known to have a superior taste because it contains low-fat content and is good for your health. Guests can also visit Mungyeong Yakdol Korean Beef butcher shop, which sells Korean beef at half the market price. In addition to grilled meat, there are also many dishes such as bulgogi hot pot, bibimbap, and cold buckwheat noodles.

Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park (문경새재도립공원)

932, Saejae-ro, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do

Mungyeongsaejae Pass, which crosses Joryeongsan Mountain, has always been the highest and most dangerous mountain pass in Korea, being reputed to be too tall for even birds to fly over. The three gates of Juheulgwan, Jogokgwan, and Joryeonggwan were built for national defense after the Imjin War (1592-1598). These three gates are designated collectively as Historic Site No. 147. The area between the three gates was designated a provincial park in 1981. The path from the first gate to the last passes through beautiful forests and takes roughly four hours round-trip. Also located within the park boundaries is Mungyeongsaejae Open Set, used for filming historical dramas.

Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street (문정동 로데오거리)
Korea travel guide

Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street (문정동 로데오거리)

10, Dongnam-ro 4-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul

Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street is a large shopping district containing over 200 brand-name discount stores. The street is T-shaped, with a 1-kilometer-long main street connected to a 400-meter-long alley, and the Munjeong 1-dong Resident Center located at the center. For shoppers’ convenience, there is a public parking lot (if visitors purchase goods at Rodeo Street, they can park here for free) and a parking lot for foreign tourists only (free of charge). Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street is one of Korea’s major shopping streets with customers ranging from teenagers to adults, since discount stores stocking sports wear, casual wear, shoes, men’s and ladies’ suits, and golf wear are all located on this street. Moreover, this is a great place to find deals on famous brands, at prices lower than at a department store. On some items you can get discounts of up to 70-80%. Since most of the goods are stock from previous seasons, it might be better to purchase the more classic styles rather than the trendy fashions. In some cases, the goods might have been slightly crumpled or stained during the transfer from warehouse storage, but taking them to the dry-cleaners should fix most problems. However you should be careful when looking at the sewing quality, and check for missing buttons. One more thing to bear in mind is the shopping season. Even discount stores have periods when stock runs low. The best time to shop is immediately after the stores in Rodeo Street restock their merchandise. This is done at about the same time as department stores. There is also an enormous variety of goods to choose from during the Rodeo Festivals in May and September. The purchased goods are exchangeable but non-refundable, so check the quality of the products carefully before purchasing. In addition, Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street has a wide selection of restaurants and entertainment facilities. There are a number of pizza places, coffee shops, and food courts, as well as internet cafes and game rooms in the alleys behind the stores. Visitors can also relax in the surrounding parks. There’s a park with a 600-year-old zelkova tree right behind the Munjeong 1-dong Resident Center. Munjeong Rodeo Street is not just a shopping district; it’s a cultural area. The ‘Munjeong-dong Cultural Festival’ takes place every year in May, and the ‘Munjeong-dong Rodeo Festival’ takes place in May every other year. During these festivals, visitors can watch traditional Korean performances, traditional wedding ceremonies, international fashion parades, hip-hop dancing, and more. A charity sale is held on weekends and national holidays on the open-air stage of the Munjeong 1-dong Resident Center, and merchandise is sold for even bigger discounts.

721, Daecheonghoban-ro, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do

Munui Cultural Properties Site, overlooking the Daecheongho Lake, attracts many visitors. The site was created to preserve and promote the local traditional culture of Cheongwon (Chungcheongbuk-do); it is a great place to learn about local history, culture, and arts. The spacious complex (132,232m²) is a home to ten traditional houses (Munsangwan, aristocrat houses, a museum, and a tavern), showing a form of a traditional village. It is also full of dolmen stones (symbolizing abundant procreation), Jangseung (totem poles at the entrance of villages or temples), and Yeonjabanga (millstones worked by horses or oxen), providing visitors with opportunities to learn about traditional culture and life. With a theme of roof tiles, a relics gallery in the complex boasts over 774 local items, categorized by historical period (e.g. the Silla Period, Baekje Period, etc.). Munsan-ri Stone Bridge, believed to have been built during the Goryeo Period, was restored in front of the gallery. The complex also offers a wide array of amenities including mineral spring sites, playgrounds, and Munui Movie Village (a drive-in movie theatert). Nearby notable attractions include artificial falls, Yangseongsan Mountain, Jakdusan Mountain, Daecheongho Lake, Nosan Pine Forest, Donghwasa Temple, and Bugang Mineral Springs.

Munyeodo Island & Seonyudo Island (무녀도‧선유도) travel guide

Munyeodo Island & Seonyudo Island (무녀도‧선유도)

Okdo-myeon, Gunsan-si, Jeonbuk-do

Munyeodo Island is located approximately 50.8 kilometers southwest of Gunsan-si, and forms the Gogunsan Islands together with Seonyudo, Sinsido, Jangjado, and other islands. Its total area occupies 1.75 square kilometers and its coastline is 11.6 kilometers long. Today, with Seonyudo in the middle, there are bridges installed between Munyeodo and Seonyudo, Seonyudo and Jangjado, and Jangjado and Daejangdo, so visitors are able to walk around as if they are on a single island. Other than Munyeobong Peak (131 meters) on the southwestern part of the island, the region is vast but lacks any tall mountains. Seonyudo Island is located in the center of the Gogunsan Islands, which consist of about 20 islands, and is approximately 50 kilometers away from Gunsan Port. It is also one of the most popular vacation spots on the entire West Coast. The location that serves as a basecamp when travelling to Seonyudo and the nearby islands is Jin-ri Village on Seonyudo. It neighbors Seonyudo Beach, which is famously known as ""Myeongsasimni,"" and faces Mangjubong Peak that stands tall like Maisan mountain. The island is crowded with schools, inns, restaurants, bike rental shops, stores, karaokes and campgrounds, which is why the area is a bit boisterous during the vacation seasons. If you wish to escape from such noise, it would be a good idea to rent a bicycle and bike to Munyeodo, Jangjado or Jinwol-ri over Mangjubong Peak. Seonyudo Island is the home of the 8 Scenic Spots of Seonyu, but the most gorgeous scenery of them all is Mangjubong Peak, which is practically the symbol of the island. Once you climb up to the top, the nearby islands and the sea come together in a cool panoramic view, which also includes the neatly sprawling Myeongsasimni Beach as well as Pyeongsanagan that resembles a seagull landing over the water. The splendid sunset on Seonyudo Island is incredible no matter where you are, whether it'll be atop Mangjubong Peak or Seonyudo Beach.
